System requirements

The EAC Tools Excel add-in requires the following:

1.      Operating system:

·        Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions are supported.

·        Windows 7 or later.

·        Does not run on macOS.

2.      Microsoft Excel:

·        Runs on Excel for Microsoft 365, Excel 2021, Excel 2019, Excel 2016, Excel 2013, Excel 2010, Excel 2007, Excel Starter 2010.

·        Does not run on Microsoft Excel Online.

·        Does not run on Excel 2003 or earlier.

·        Does not run on Excel for Mac, Excel for Web, Excel for iPhone/iPad/Android.

3.      The add-in needs 19 MB of disk space.

4.      The add-in uses 86 MB of memory at startup and consumes approximately 0.5 MB of memory whenever another mortality table is accessed.

5.      The add-in needs to access the Windows registry (read/write).

6.      If the add-in fails to load, it could be because it has been blocked by Microsoft 365. Click here for information.

7.      The folder C:\Users\Public\ needs to be set as a trusted location in order to allow the macros to run. Click here for information.

8.      The add-in contains “active content” in the form of macros; therefore it needs Excel Trust Center settings to allow macros to run. Click here for information.
Note: If you set C:\Users\Public\ as a
trusted location, this will allow macros to run.

9.      Microsoft Defender Antivirus exclusions and Attack Surface Reduction (ASR) rules must not block Win32 API calls that are used by the VBA macros in the EAC Tools add-in. In order to do its work, the EAC Tools add-in (eac_pv.xlam), running in VBA, calls Win32 APIs that are available in the Windows operating system to run commands, open web pages, access the clipboard, access the file system, download files from the internet, etc.

10.  The add-in file (eac_pv.xlam) must not be blocked by Windows security. If it is blocked, then the add-in will disappear when restarting Excel. In July 2016, Microsoft decided to heighten its security features and block add-in files (.xlam) that were downloaded from the internet or another computer. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not provide notification that the file is being blocked, leaving users scratching their heads as to why add-ins keep disappearing from the ribbon. To fix this, first make sure the folder that contains the add-in is a “Trusted Location”. If that does not help, you can unblock the add-in.

To unblock the add-in file, please follow the steps below:

a.      Open Windows File Explorer, navigate to the folder C:\Users\Public.

b.     Right-click the add-in file eac_pv.xlam and select Properties.

c.      Check the Security section of the General tab. Check the Unblock box.

d.     Finally, click the OK button.

e.      Close Excel and re-open it. The add-in will appear in Excel’s ribbon.

11.  The add-in needs to access to following Internet locations:
