NAE
returns
the National
Average Wage Index (a.k.a. National Average Earnings) as determined by the
Social Security Administration. NAE is used to compute a person’s Social Security
retirement benefit, the OASDI contribution and benefit based (wage base), and several other annual regulatory amounts.
NAE is based on annual wage data tabulated by the SSA.
The wage data are based on wages subject to Federal income taxes and
contributions to deferred compensation plans.
