SSERA, SSEarlyRetAge

SSERA returns the Social Security Early Retirement Age for a given date of birth. This is used to determine the number of reduction months to calculate the early retirement reduction. (SSEarlyRetAge is the same function.)

Note: You must be at least 62 for the entire month to receive benefits.

The Social Security early retirement age is based on the day of birth according to the following formula:

Day of Birth

SSERA

1st day of month

61 11/12

2nd day of month

62

Any other day

62 1/12

Note: Persons born on January 1 of any year should refer to the normal retirement age for the previous year. Persons born on the 1st of the month, the benefit (and the full retirement age) are calculated as if your birthday was in the previous month.

More information can be found at the Social Security web site.
